Around 2:20am, Shawty Lo’s Audi crashed over a guardrail, hit several trees, and caught on fire in South Fulton County. According to Atlanta’s Channel 2 News, the rapper was ejected from the car and died on the scene.
Shawty Lo was without a doubt a huge part of my childhood hip-hop years. I have too many middle school mixtapes with these tracks burnt on them…. He first hit the scene with the group D4L, known for tracks Laffy Taffy and Bet You Can’t Do It Like Me. Laffy Taffy topped the Billboard 100 charts in 2006 and went triple platinum.
He later released a solo album. The single They Know went certified gold.
Many artists have expressed their condolences via social media after reports of Shawty Lo’s passing took over the Internet.
This is horrific news for the hip-hop community, but most importantly his large family. Shawty Lo was the father to 11 children.
