Chicago’s own, Noname (formerly known as Noname Gypsy), stopped by NPR for their Tiny Desk Concert segment.
I love Noname. Not only because she’s a Chicago native – and makes such clear in her verses; but also for her unique and soulful prose. Today’s hip-hop is no longer the nitty-gritty, boom-bap that our parents and older siblings were accustomed to. Now, the lines between R&B and pop and blues and rock and, yes, rap are all blurred and fused together. Noname is another powerful example of this fusion by providing the spoken word/R&B/hip-hop that Chicago’s known for.
That’s #BlackGirlMagic
In case you missed it.
